Reykjavik Travel Guide for Adventure and Simplicity

Reykjavik Travel Guide

Make the most of your time in Reykjavik, Iceland with this simple travel guide based on our adventures.

Phil found a flight deal going to London with a quick stop in Iceland. After some careful planning, we were able to spend four days in Iceland as part of our layover.

We loved our time in Reykjavik, Iceland and it was a perfect travel pitstop. If you have never been to Iceland, Reykjavik needs to be on your travel bucket list.

Where to Stay

Airbnb

So far for all of the international trips we have used Airbnb. Partly because we can find some great deals but also because it's a great way to get more immersed in wherever we go.

There is also the benefit of not having to talk to people while checking in/out, which Phil loves. Plus we love having a kitchen since it stops us from getting too unhealthy with our eating habits.

The laundry machine also comes in handy as we are minimalists and pack very lightly. We could just go to a laundromat but having it in our rental saves us time. The perfect spacious living room in our Air BnB in Reykjavik

Our Airbnb in Iceland may have been the best one yet. It was gigantic, especially compared to our tiny trailer. There was even enough space to move the furniture and work out in the living room.

The best part, however, was the balcony and the amazing view. The only downside is we loved our Airbnb so much we didn't want to leave so we did less sightseeing. The perfect of Reykjavik from our balcony

Where to Eat

Devito's Pizza

If you only eat one meal in Reykjavik then it HAS to be this place. We only checked it out because the owner of our Airbnb told us it was his favorite pizza place. Plus, it was just a block down the street from where we were staying.

This was hands down THE BEST pizza we have ever had. As of now, we are claiming this is the best pizza in THE WORLD. Luckily we got it near the end of us being there because we would have had it every day.

Devito's PizzaIt wasn't a bad price for a gigantic pizza especially compared to the rest of the food in Reykjavik. We got cheese, jalapeño, and pineapple making it a perfect vegetarian option. It was the perfect blend of cheese on a thin crust with a perfect amount of grease.

Brass Kitchen and Bar

For a nice sit-down restaurant, this place is perfect. It's attached to a hotel and has a very chill and fancy vibe. We had a veggie sandwich with a side of truffle fries and some other random appetizers. It was all very filling and ended up being two meals since we ate more of a "linner".

The perfect amber beer from Brass kitchen and barJust remember that the menu is partly in English but most in Icelandic. Kelsey was able to order a beer based solely on where it was on the list and lucked out with guessing where the ambers were located.

One other tidbit is that you cannot leave a tip on a credit card as their system did not allow it. But in Iceland tipping is not required as not expected.

Yummi Yummi

We decided to try this place because it was down the street and open for easy take out. They serve typical Tai noodle dishes, fried rice, and spring rolls.

The food here was amazing but we will admit this was one of our more expensive choices especially for the amount of food we got. Honestly, we can get similar options for a lot less in America and even better options in Thailand.

What to Do

Blue Lagoon

You'd be crazy to go to Iceland without visiting the Blue Lagoon. It was by far the highlight of our trip. The Blue Lagoon is a giant hot spring spa with plenty of amenities.

The main selling point is probably the face mask bar with plenty of clay so you can do unlimited masks and for your full body. Of course, there are also two steam rooms, a sauna, and a swim-up bar. Blue Lagoon in Iceland

Since we liked the Blue Lagoon so much we decided it deserves a full post. If any of our friends or family are thinking of a trip let us know because we would love an excuse to go back.

SightseeingBlue waters of Reykjavik

One of the best parts about visiting Iceland is seeing all of the beautiful sites. Even if it's just walking around town and seeing the unique architecture.

Hallgrímskirkja

Hallgrímskirkja Church in ReykjavikWe didn't go in but there is a beautiful church in Reykjavik called Hallgrímskirkja that has a very unique look to it. Not only is it beautiful but it's also one of the tallest buildings in the country of Iceland.

They are open to visitors and seem very welcoming. It's a perfect photo opportunity with a perfect Instagram worthy set up.

Walk Around

An easy way to get some exercise while seeing some views is to walk around and see beautiful Reykjavik. Our favorite part was this walkway along the water. Iceland is pretty well known for it's perfectly blue, freshwater and while we were there it did not disappoint.

Thrift Shop

Thrift shopping in ReykjavikThere is a Red Cross thrift store downtown that has the perfect boutique vibe with thrift store prices. Plus benefits go towards helping Red Cross.

The best part was all of the warm clothes and cashmere options for really cheap. Kelsey could have stayed for hours and bought everything if we didn't have a flight back home...and a tiny wardrobe.

There were other thrift stores as well but the Red Cross store was the best in our opinion. We are always a fan of thrifting as much as possible, even when traveling.
