Simple DIY Adhesive Remover

DIY Adhesive Remover

We love reusing the glass jars that we originally bought from the store so we can reduce our waste but also use less plastic. Unfortunately, we needed an adhesive remover to get rid of sticky residue from the sticker placed by the manufacture.

How to Make Adhesive RemoverYou can use a store-bought goo gone but most have too many unwanted chemicals, not to mention most come in plastic packaging. We wanted something easy we could make on our own with natural ingredients.

We now use a perfect DIY adhesive remover that not only works great but only requires 3 ingredients! It's perfect and leaves our jars looking brand new.

All of the ingredients can be very easy to come by and have no unwanted chemicals. We own everything needed for other reasons so this makes our DIY option minimalist friendly. Plus you can buy most of what you need in glass jars making it even more eco-friendly.

We mostly use it to remove sticker residue from glass jars but it will probably work for most gooey jobs. It works great and has quick results with less effort on your part.

We tried several recipes but this seemed the best for a quick result and you don’t have to let it sit. You can make some quickly when you need it or store it in a glass jar (possibly newly cleaned with this DIY) for later use.

Ingredients Listed ingredients for adhesive remover

  1. Baking soda
  2. Coconut oil
  3. Lemon essential oil

Instructions

Step 1

Mix baking soda and coconut oil to form a paste. We don’t measure anything out but instead start with coconut oil and add baking soda until a paste is formed. Then add several drops of the lemon essential oil.

Step 2

Jars with adhesive

Scoop up the paste then place directly onto the sticky substance. You can use a sponge or towel but fingers work great too.

Make sure the entire residue is covered. We typically cover the entire jar just to make sure we get everything.

Step 3

Cleaning off the jarScrub until residue comes off. For us, it typically takes less than a minute.

We just use a towel, sometimes the same towel we used to applied the paste. A sponge would also work well but we noticed a sponge can soak up the coconut oil which is not as helpful while trying to wash dishes.

Step 4

clean jarsRinse off all of the paste from the glass jar (or other objects with sticky residue). We typically rinse once more with dish soap to get rid of any coconut oil that may be left on it.

Simple DIY Adhesive Remover

Now enjoy your bright and shiny glass jar! It's not that there is anything wrong with jars that still have sticky residue but it can be frustrating to always put your hands on.

Since we use our jars often we have found the clean jar is the way to go. Like we said this DIY adhesive remover may work on other materials but we mostly use it on glass jars. It works on plastic but since we trying to reduce plastic waste we have only used it once on a plastic bottle.

One Last Thing...

We have tried other DIY adhesive remover recipes. The one that seemed to work the worst for us was baking soda and dawn dish soap.

First off, the only dish soap we could find was in a plastic container and we try to avoid buying plastic at all costs. Second off, the final paste did not seem to get much sticker residue off. To top it off, for us to even get off any residue we had to let it sit for about 5 minutes with the concoction on it.

The above recipe is the one we use and the one we have found the most success with! We feel it is a perfect DIY natural adhesive remover that's easy to make and use.
